British Airways is planning to increase ticket prices due to the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The International Airlines Group, which owns British Airways along with other airlines, is facing a significant rise in jet fuel costs amounting to £1.7 billion this year because of the situation in the region.
To offset this surge in expenses, the group aims to recover around 60% of the cost, approximately £1 billion, through a combination of higher fares and cost-cutting measures. However, IAG remains optimistic about managing the situation and ensuring flight operations continue smoothly. Although the higher fuel prices may impact profits for the year, the company expressed confidence in its business model and strategy.
IAG reported strong demand in most markets but noted softer demand in the eastern Mediterranean region. The company’s profit for the first quarter of the year saw a significant increase compared to the previous year. Despite the challenges posed by the conflict, IAG aims to maintain operational stability and customer trust during this period of uncertainty in the aviation industry.
