Barclays to Close Barclaycard Website, Promote App Banking

Date:

Barclays has revealed its decision to shut down the Barclaycard website, directing customers to utilize the app instead. The closure is set for June 10, attributed to the increasing trend of customers opting for app-based banking activities.

The banking institution assures that customers will eventually gain access to online Barclaycard services via the Barclays website. With over five million customer accounts in the UK, Barclaycard users are advised to transition to managing their accounts through the Barclaycard app.

In correspondence shared on Reddit, customers were informed of the website closure scheduled for June 10, 2026. The message emphasized that the change will not impact account usage or card functionality, urging customers to continue utilizing the Barclaycard app for account management.

Expressing discontent, some customers took to social media to voice frustration over the website closure, highlighting that not all individuals prefer using apps for banking needs. Responding to concerns, a spokesperson clarified that the dedicated Barclaycard website will be replaced by account servicing through Barclays online banking, ensuring a seamless transition for regular online banking users.

Barclays aims to simplify services for customers by gradually implementing this change without disrupting access to online banking. Customers will retain the ability to apply for new cards or manage existing accounts through the Barclaycard or Barclays apps, telephone banking, or in-branch services.

Recent reports suggest that Barclays plans to reintroduce high-street presence by opening new branches and reinstating personal banking service. Vim Maru, Barclays UK’s chief executive officer, underlined the importance of personalized customer assistance, steering away from automated interactions.

Despite the closure of over 800 branches since 2018, Barclays maintains 206 branches operational across the UK. Emphasizing the balance between digital innovation and personalized support, Barclays aims to offer customers a differentiated banking experience, with a focus on human interaction when needed.
