Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred at a party in Aarau over the weekend. During the early hours of Sunday, a 22-year-old Italian woman lost her life, and five others sustained injuries at the event hosted at a covered horse racing track. Following an extensive operation, the Swiss police arrested the suspect around 1 a.m. on Monday for his alleged involvement in the attack.
Law enforcement in the canton of Aargau disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, including any underlying motives. Initial assessments suggest the involvement of a lone perpetrator, although no specific details were provided at this time. Authorities stated they were considering three potential motives for the shooting: a mass shooting, a terrorist act, or an unknown criminal intent.
At the crime scene, authorities discovered cartridges from two different types of firearms, indicating the potential use of a pistol and a larger weapon, possibly an assault rifle. While the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger noted similarities between the recovered cartridges and those used in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle and its variations, the police refrained from commenting on this information. The victim, identified as Maria Spinelli by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, was the 22-year-old Italian national who tragically lost her life in the incident.
