Toronto Blue Jays powerhouse Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is back in action after being cleared from the seven-day injured list. The slugger will rejoin the lineup for the game against the New York Yankees. Guerrero sustained an injury during a recent game against the Yankees when he collided with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. at third base in a peculiar play during the sixth inning. Despite the incident that caused Guerrero’s helmet to come off, he managed to score before leaving the game.
Having passed his concussion tests and participated in a minor league rehab game for single-A Dunedin, Guerrero returned to the team on Friday. He was slotted second in the batting order for Saturday’s game following Toronto’s loss in the series opener against the Yankees. To make room for Guerrero’s return, the Blue Jays sent infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero, with a batting average of .263, seven home runs, and 46 RBIs, had been performing well before the collision, hitting .310 in his last seven games. His return is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the Blue Jays lineup as they continue their season.
