The team secured a bronze medal by defeating Mexico 34-26 in a thrilling match that ended in overtime with Guillaume Béland intercepting a crucial pass.
This victory not only marked a significant achievement but also ensured Canada’s participation in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where flag football will debut as an event. Tachinski described the moment of the game-winning interception as an indescribable and surreal experience, leaving him speechless and emotional.
Looking ahead to the Olympics, Tachinski expressed his anticipation of representing Canada and highlighted the excitement of potentially competing in the Olympic Village setting, reminiscent of the amazing experience at the world championship.
Canada’s women’s team also secured a spot in the Olympics by defeating the U.S. 27-20, concluding an undefeated streak. Quarterback Sara Parker’s exceptional performance earned her the title of the tournament’s most valuable player.
Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea commended both flag football teams, expressing his immense pride in their achievements and emphasizing the honor of representing one’s country on a global stage. The possibility of CFL and NFL players participating in flag football at the 2028 Olympics adds another layer of excitement.
