A deadly flesh-eating bacteria has been identified in bodies of water in parts of New York, posing a severe threat to those who come into contact with it. Researchers have pinpointed “vibrio vulnificus hotspots” in several ponds on Long Island. Dr. Christopher Gobler, an ecologist at Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, has issued a warning stating that individuals infected with this bacteria could have a 20% chance of succumbing to the infection within 48 hours.
