“Deadliest US Mass Shooting in 2 Years: Gunman Kills 8 Children”

Date:

Neighbors of Shamar Elkins, the alleged perpetrator in the deaths of eight children ranging from one to 12 years old, recounted observing him fleeing the residence. The tragic incident, labeled as the deadliest mass shooting in the US in over two years, involved the Louisiana gunman targeting two households early on Sunday. The assailant, identified as Shamar Elkins, fatally shot seven of his own children, injured their mother, and also killed one additional child.

According to Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon, the sequence of events unfolded with Elkins shooting the mother initially before taking the lives of the eight children. In total, ten individuals were shot, with two women surviving the harrowing attack. One of the female victims sustained critical injuries, believed to be from a gunshot wound to the head.

The appalling events transpired on a Sunday morning when the gunman approached a residence in Shreveport, where the tragic massacre occurred. Following the shooting, Elkins drove to Harrison Street, approximately a quarter of a mile away, leading to a high-speed pursuit by law enforcement after he committed a carjacking. Eventually, Elkins proceeded to a third location where he was shot and killed by police.

Liza Demming, a resident living near the crime scene, captured video footage of the suspect fleeing and heard two gunshots. She mentioned seeing the covered body of a child on a neighboring home’s roof, expressing shock as she believed the perpetrator resembled a fatherly figure she had recently seen with the children.

Pastor Marty T. Johnson Sr., from a nearby church owning one of the properties involved in the shootings, indicated that the family responsible for the rental had no prior interactions with him. He expressed plans to hold a prayer vigil for the family and offer assistance in burying the children.

Louisiana State Police confirmed that they were requested by Shreveport authorities to investigate the incident. State police emphasized that no officers were injured during the pursuit that extended into Bossier City. Anyone in possession of relevant images, videos, or information was urged to cooperate with state police detectives.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and US House Speaker Mike Johnson, both expressing sorrow over the tragedy, commended law enforcement for their swift response. They extended thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families, and the Shreveport community during this challenging period. Detectives established that the shooting was solely a domestic-related matter.
