Fitbit Unveils Fitbit Air: Stylish, Screenless Fitness Tracker

Date:

Fitbit, known for aiding users in maintaining an active lifestyle for more than 15 years, has introduced a new device called the Fitbit Air. This latest offering, devoid of a screen unlike its predecessors, resembles popular Whoop bands that elegantly wrap around the wrist.

Although the absence of a screen means losing features like message notifications, heart rate monitoring, and exercise data display, the Fitbit Air boasts some significant advantages. It is designed for enhanced comfort, akin to a stylish bracelet rather than a smartwatch. In a recent study, Google reported that the Fitbit Air excelled in comfort and was rated more comfortable than its top competitors.

One of the standout features of the Fitbit Air is its exceptional battery life, promising up to a week of usage without the need for recharging. Additionally, fast charging technology enables a day’s worth of power in just five minutes, ensuring minimal downtime. The device also comes with a new magnetic charger featuring bi-directional technology, eliminating the need to worry about orientation when recharging.

Despite its minimalist appearance, the Fitbit Air remains true to its core functionality. It tracks various metrics like sleep patterns, activity levels, daily workouts, heart rate, and can even detect conditions such as AFib while alerting users to irregular heart rhythms.

Internally, the Fitbit Air houses an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor. Since it lacks a display, all data is seamlessly transmitted to smartphones, where the Google Health Coach app can provide a comprehensive overview of the user’s health status.

Water-resistant up to 50 meters, the Fitbit Air will be offered in four color options: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender, catering to varied preferences. Priced at £84.99 upon release, it aims to provide an affordable yet feature-rich fitness tracking experience for users.
