“Which? Report Exposes Major Mobile Networks’ Performance Gap”

Date:

A recent report by consumer group Which? has revealed that the major mobile networks, including EE, Vodafone, Three, and O2, are falling short in terms of overall performance compared to smaller competitors. The study, based on feedback from over 5,000 smartphone users across the country, highlighted that lesser-known networks often offer better value and superior customer service.

The survey aimed to assess how well providers are meeting customer expectations. Results indicated that the established “Big Four” networks are trailing behind many smaller rivals in terms of customer satisfaction and service quality.

Leading the rankings were Talkmobile, followed by Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff, and SMARTY. Among the major providers, EE performed the best, ranking ninth, while O2 and Three were among the lowest-rated networks.

One of the key findings of the report was the significant price difference between the Big Four networks and smaller providers. Customers on the major networks paid an average of £16 per month for a SIM-only deal, whereas those on smaller networks paid just £9 on average.

Despite the lower prices offered by smaller providers, the report highlighted that coverage quality is not compromised, as many of these providers use the infrastructure of major networks. This allows customers to access similar signal strength and service quality without the premium costs associated with well-known brands.

Switching between networks was also identified as a straightforward process, with some customers able to switch in as little as 10 minutes. One customer mentioned in the report shared their experience of leaving O2 due to a price increase and switching to a more cost-effective plan with SMARTY, saving around £200 annually.

Natalie Hitchins, Head of Home Products and Services at Which?, emphasized the consistent superiority of smaller providers in terms of customer service and affordability compared to larger mobile firms. She encouraged customers nearing the end of their contracts to consider switching to providers offering better value and service quality.

The rankings from Which? revealed that Talkmobile topped the list with 83%, followed by Tesco Mobile at 81%, Giffgaff and SMARTY at 79% each, and Voxi at 79%. The scores of other providers ranged from 78% to 65%, with Three and O2 receiving the lowest rankings among the major networks.
