Vodafone Introduces AI-Powered Scam Call Protection Service
The issue of receiving unwanted and potentially harmful phone calls is on the rise, with reports indicating that the average UK consumer faces around eight such calls each month. These calls often aim to trick individuals into disclosing personal information and credit card details for fraudulent purposes.
To combat this growing problem, Vodafone has unveiled a new service called Scam Call Protection. Utilizing artificial intelligence technology, this feature is designed to detect and highlight suspicious or fraudulent calls, including spam and nuisance calls.
Operating discreetly in the background, the system scrutinizes all incoming calls to users’ phones. If any irregularities are detected, customers will receive a straightforward on-screen notification alerting them to a potential scam call.
Rob Winterschladen, Vodafone’s Consumer Director, emphasized the necessity of such a service, stating, “Scam calls are becoming increasingly harder to spot, and it’s easy to feel caught off guard.” He further explained that Scam Call Protection offers an added layer of security by continuously monitoring calls and identifying known or suspected scam calls.
This initiative is part of Vodafone’s Secure Net Mobile platform, which already includes features like advanced parental controls, round-the-clock ID monitoring to prevent identity theft, and real-time virus and malware protection.
Interested individuals can test the Scam Call Protection service for free for three months, with a subsequent monthly fee of £2 thereafter.
