A honeymooning tourist in the Maldives is in critical condition after a shark attack resulted in severe blood loss and the amputation of his leg. Identified as Borja, a Spanish gynaecologist, he had recently married Ana before embarking on their first holiday together. The shark attack, which occurred near Kooddoo island, is believed to have been triggered by heightened shark activity due to a lack of fish waste dumping in the area.
The victim was initially taken to Ga. Atoll Hospital and later airlifted to Male, the capital of the Maldives, where he is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at ADK Hospital. Reports indicate that a family member has filed a complaint against the excursion company for negligence. Ana’s relatives have flown to the Maldives to support her during this difficult time.
Kooddoo, known for its Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort, is a popular honeymoon spot, attracting visitors for its scenic beauty and luxury accommodations.
