London Mayor Khan Slams Trump’s Threats to Iran

Date:

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has strongly criticized Donald Trump’s provocative threats towards Iran, comparing the need to condemn potential unlawful actions by the US and Israel in the Middle East to calling out Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Khan, a prominent Labour politician with a history of discord with President Trump, condemned the US leader’s alarming statement that “a whole civilization will die” unless Iran complied with his demands. Trump later backed down following an eleventh-hour ceasefire agreement.

Expressing his thoughts on Trump’s warning to Iran, Khan remarked to The Mirror that it was “gratuitously offensive” for the leader of the free world to speak about a civilization in such a manner. He emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue and unity in achieving a lasting ceasefire.

Moreover, Khan raised concerns about joint US/Israeli actions in the region and questioned the legality of attacks on civilian infrastructure. He stressed the need for permanent ceasefires in both Lebanon and Iran to prevent further loss of innocent lives and condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure by the US and Israel, likening it to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

As international pressure mounts, Keir Starmer and other world leaders have demanded an end to Israel’s assault on Lebanon and urged for a lasting US-Iran ceasefire. Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel has continued its military operations in Lebanon against Hezbollah, an Iranian-supported militant group.
