“UK National Lottery to Introduce £1B Powerball Jackpot”

Date:

UK lottery enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to vie for a staggering £1 billion jackpot following a significant overhaul of the National Lottery. Allwyn, the operator, has disclosed plans to introduce a UK version of the renowned American Powerball game, allowing UK players to participate alongside their counterparts in the US for a chance to win the colossal prize distributed over 30 years.

The collaboration between Allwyn and the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) in the US has paved the way for the introduction of Powerball in the UK, although the exact launch date remains undisclosed. Concurrently, the National Lottery is enhancing its Lotto game, granting players two chances to win for every £2 ticket purchased, with the changes set to commence on June 7. This modification is projected to elevate the number of Lotto millionaires from approximately 140 annually to an estimated 345, marking the most substantial transformation since the game’s inception in 1994.

The inaugural two-round draw is slated for Wednesday, June 10, with subsequent Lotto draws scheduled for Saturdays and Wednesdays at around 8 pm. Allwyn’s CEO, Andria Vidler, expressed enthusiasm about enriching The National Lottery’s offerings with more games and innovations, underscoring the organization’s commitment to delivering an enhanced player experience. The introduction of diverse gaming options aims to broaden the player base and ensure the National Lottery remains a prominent fixture in national discourse.

The introduction of new games is expected to amplify contributions to charitable causes, with over 30% of Powerball ticket proceeds allocated to philanthropic endeavors. This initiative is forecasted to generate approximately £1 billion extra within the initial five years, contributing significantly to the overarching goal of doubling weekly contributions to good causes by 2034. Allwyn’s recent report indicated that total National Lottery sales in 2025, including in-store purchases, amounted to £8.1 billion, reflecting a 3.5% increase from the preceding year.

The generated revenue facilitated the allocation of over £1.7 billion towards various charitable initiatives encompassing health, education, arts, sports, heritage, and other noble causes, with an additional £967 million directed to tax revenues. These developments signify a strategic move towards fostering greater financial support for charitable endeavors while enhancing the lottery experience for participants across the UK.
