Three horses, Mr Vango, Top Of The Bill, and Quai De Bourbon, sustained injuries during the Grand National race at Aintree near Liverpool. Mr Vango, who fell at the sixth fence, suffered an avulsion fracture in the neck and was taken to Leahurst Equine Hospital for evaluation. Trainer Sara Bradstock expressed hope for his full recovery, mentioning that despite the fracture, it is not near the vertebrae.
Ms. Bradstock stated that they are closely monitoring Mr. Vango at the hospital and plan to conduct a CT scan before bringing him home. While it may take some time, there is optimism for his recovery. The trainer remains positive about his potential return to racing next season, emphasizing the importance of proper healing due to a chip off the vertebrae.
Top Of The Bill, another horse involved in the race incident, was examined on the course after falling at the final fence. Jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell received a 10-day suspension for not pulling up the horse promptly. Despite the tumble, Top Of The Bill and another horse, Beauport, were reported to be in good condition by their training yard.
Willie Mullins’ horse, Quai De Bourbon, was also assessed post-fall at the second fence and was scheduled to return home after the race. The updates on the injured horses reflect the ongoing care and attention they are receiving post-accident.
