A tragic incident unfolded on the M6 when a man lost his life in a fatal crash caused by a car driving in the wrong direction on the busy motorway. The collision occurred on the southbound side near Leyland and Standish, close to the Charnock Richard services around 9:30 pm. Prior to the crash, authorities received reports of a Vauxhall Astra traveling in the opposite direction on the motorway.
The collision involved a Vauxhall Astra and a Toyota Corolla on the southbound carriageway, resulting in the death of the Astra’s driver, a man in his 50s. Two men in their 40s, believed to be the occupants of the Corolla, sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. The southbound carriageway remains closed as investigators work at the scene, causing significant delays for motorists. Additionally, two lanes on the northbound side are closed, leading to delays of over two hours.
Authorities are urging witnesses of the crash or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward. They suspect the Astra may have been involved in another incident on Blackpool Road in Preston before the M6 collision. Sgt Rebecca Price of the Road Policing Unit expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized the importance of refraining from speculation online to allow for a thorough investigation. She encouraged anyone with relevant information or footage to contact the authorities promptly.
