In her first game for Vancouver, Alex Lamontagne netted two goals as the Rise dominated the Ottawa Rapid with a 5-1 victory in Northern Super League action on Saturday. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, converting a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise. Three quick goals in the early second half set the tone for Vancouver’s convincing win at TD Place.
Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, ending Jessica Wulf’s clean sheet hopes. The Rise’s triumph propelled them to fourth place in the league standings, edging past the Halifax Tide by one point. They now boast seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, accumulating 22 points.
Despite the loss, the Ottawa Rapid maintains their lead in the league with 33 points, staying ahead of the Montreal Roses by three points. The Rapid’s record stands at 10 wins, four losses, and three draws. Vancouver held the edge in possession with 53% compared to the Rapid’s 47%, and outshot the home team 17-8, with 11 shots on target.
The Rise also dominated in corner kicks, securing four out of the seven awarded in the game. Each team received two yellow cards during the match. Looking ahead, the Rise will face the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid is set to take on AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
