UK Weather Forecast: 20C+ Temperatures Expected in 26 Counties

Date:

Temperatures in up to 26 UK counties are expected to reach 20C or higher soon, as indicated by the latest weather forecasting maps. The ECMWF model predicts a heat surge later this month, with some regions possibly experiencing temperatures as high as 23C. Peak temperatures are forecasted for April 29, around 6pm, particularly in the south-east of England and along the south coast. Additionally, warm conditions are anticipated in East Anglia, the Midlands, and parts of Wales.

Northern areas won’t be significantly colder either, with Northern Ireland and southern Scotland expected to see highs of 18C and the Scottish Highlands at 16C. However, the real warmth is forecasted for southern regions, with 28 counties potentially reaching temperatures of 20C or above on April 29.

Despite these warm predictions, the Met Office warns of potential cold air and wintry showers sweeping through some parts of the country. The outlook from April 22 to May 1 suggests mostly dry weather, with exceptions like rain and breezy conditions in the southwest due to Atlantic frontal zones. Towards the end of April, a brief cold spell may bring wintry showers in the north and east, followed by milder conditions.

Looking ahead to May, the Met Office anticipates slowly evolving weather patterns, with high pressure likely to be situated north or northwest of the UK. The start of May may see drier conditions in northern and western areas, while southern and eastern regions could experience more rain or showers at times. Overall, temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly above average, with the possibility of chilly nights and late-season frost, especially in the north.
