Trump Warns of Civilization Loss Without Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Date:

Donald Trump has issued a stark warning, stating that a significant loss of civilization could occur if Iran does not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by the specified deadline.

Using the Truth Social platform, the former US president emphasized the necessity for a “Complete and Total Regime Change” and indicated that the global community would witness a pivotal event unfolding imminently. Trump has set a deadline of Tuesday at 8 pm ET (1 am BST Wednesday) for Iran to comply with the demand to reopen the strait.

In his message on Truth Social, Trump expressed concerns about the potential irreversible consequences, stating, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”

He further added, “We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”

Over the weekend, Trump delivered a strongly worded threat to Iran, vowing to target its power plants and civilian infrastructure if Iran fails to comply with the strait reopening demand by the set deadline. Subsequently, he escalated the rhetoric on Monday, mentioning the possibility of “complete demolition” of Iranian infrastructure and highlighting the capability of the US to swiftly neutralize Iran.

Following reports on Tuesday that the US had purportedly carried out strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, oil prices surged, with US crude prices rising over 3% to nearly $116 a barrel and Brent crude surpassing $110 a barrel.

Kharg Island, situated approximately 16 miles off the Iranian coast and around 300 miles northwest of the Strait of Hormuz, plays a critical role in processing about 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, facilitating the connection of the country’s oil resources to the global market.

Equipped with extensive storage facilities and pipelines capable of managing substantial crude oil volumes daily, Kharg Island serves as a pivotal hub for oil tankers to load and transport oil extracted from southwestern Iranian fields. The island’s strategic economic significance led to its targeting during the Iran-Iraq War due to its importance in the region.
