Donald Trump has officially terminated Pam Bondi, the Attorney General who made public the Epstein Files. Trump announced on Truth Social that Bondi, a respected figure and loyal ally, had effectively served as Attorney General for the past year. He praised her for overseeing a significant reduction in crime rates, particularly in the realm of murder, which had reached historic lows. Bondi, he stated, would be moving on to a new role in the private sector, with Todd Blanche, a capable legal mind, stepping in as Acting Attorney General.
Rumors about Bondi’s future had been swirling in Washington DC, with reports suggesting that Trump had informed her that her tenure at the Justice Department was ending before his recent address to the nation. Despite her plea for an extension, Bondi is said to have returned to Florida. Bondi’s handling of the Epstein Files, a source of frustration for Trump given his frequent mentions in them, led to a loss of confidence in her, especially after being summoned by a congressional committee to testify under oath.
While Trump’s name appears in the Epstein Files in relation to unverified allegations of child sexual abuse, the White House has dismissed these claims as lacking any credible evidence. Speculation arose that Lee Zeldin, the current head of the Environmental Protection Agency, might replace Bondi, although Todd Blanche will temporarily fill the role. Zeldin, a former congressman and Trump supporter, has been a vocal advocate for the President.
As of the latest reports, Trump had not made a final decision regarding Bondi’s dismissal. Bondi had accompanied Trump to the Supreme Court to observe arguments on his challenge to birthright citizenship. Trump expressed his appreciation for Bondi’s work but indicated that her time as Attorney General was drawing to a close. News sources indicated that Trump had informed Bondi of her impending departure from the position.
