President Donald Trump has revealed plans for an underground bunker beneath the White House ballroom. Despite a federal judge blocking above-ground construction, work below-ground, including national security facilities, is allowed to continue. Trump criticized the judge, accusing him of hindering national security efforts.
The president emphasized the importance of the project, stating it will provide a safe meeting place for future leaders. The facility will include bomb shelters, a modern hospital, drone-proof ceilings, and military-grade venting. Trump defended the construction, noting it is progressing on schedule and within budget.
Questioning the timing of the complaint against the project, Trump denounced the judge’s actions as politically motivated and detrimental to national security. The judge’s ruling permits necessary above-ground construction to protect national security facilities without locking in the ballroom’s size.
Following a directive from the federal Circuit Court of Appeals, the judge reconsidered the national security implications of halting construction. The administration raised concerns about threats to White House security. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is opposing the project, with previous attempts to halt construction being denied by the judge.
In his opinion, the judge highlighted the need for congressional approval for such construction projects. He emphasized that while the president is responsible for the White House, he is not its owner. The legal battle continues as the administration pushes forward with the ballroom construction plans.
