Lebanon and Israel have reached a 10-day ceasefire agreement, as announced by former President Donald Trump, who stated that this negotiation marks the tenth conflict resolution he has been involved in. The temporary cessation of hostilities is scheduled to commence at 5pm EST (10pm BST), according to a post on Trump’s Truth Social account. Trump mentioned having productive discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu, leading to both nations agreeing to the truce after meeting in Washington, D.C., for the first time in 34 years, with the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump has directed key officials, including Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine, to collaborate with Israel and Lebanon in achieving long-lasting peace. He asserted that he has previously facilitated resolutions for nine conflicts worldwide, emphasizing this new agreement as his tenth peace deal.
Despite Trump’s claims of conflict resolutions, ongoing violence persists in various regions, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo. Countries like India have refuted any involvement by Trump in securing peace with Pakistan, while Serbia has clarified its lack of intent to engage in a war with Kosovo.
In a subsequent social media update, Trump expressed his intention to host Aoun and Netanyahu at the White House for what he described as the first substantive discussions between Israel and Lebanon since 1983.
