Tranwell Farm Holidays: Top Sustainable Getaway

Date:

A sustainable vacation spot near Morpeth in Northumberland clinched the top spot in the region at the recent Destination North East England Tourism Awards on March 19.

Tranwell Farm Holidays emerged victorious in the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year category at the 24th edition of the annual event. Situated on a family-managed farm for over six decades, the site has been offering a variety of unique glamping experiences since 2022.

Accommodation choices range from grass pitches in serene meadows to bringing your own caravan or campervan. There is a cozy shepherd’s hut for two, a snug camping pod, and two woodland lodges surrounded by trees, each featuring a private log-fired hot tub.

Guests can partake in special farm activities like meeting rare breed lambs, bottle-feeding them, or witnessing a birth. The park’s location in an area with designated dark skies makes it an ideal destination for stargazing.

Visitors have the option to rent a stargazing kit complete with binoculars, hot water bottles, and a rug, and even a telescope for an enhanced celestial exploration experience.

Morpeth, a charming historic market town less than a 10-minute drive away, boasts the River Wansbeck flowing through its heart. The town offers a mix of chain and independent shops along its traditional high street, with upscale boutiques found in the indoor Sanderson Arcade.

A leisurely stroll along Carlisle Park by the river unveils landmarks such as Morpeth Court, now home to an antiques center and café, and the Morpeth Chantry, a medieval building hosting a bagpipe museum with live performances.

Northumberland’s pristine and expansive beaches are a highlight, with nearby options including Blyth Beach, renowned for its long promenade and colorful beach huts, and Cambois Beach, a quieter spot with sandy dunes ideal for peaceful walks and popular with dog walkers and anglers.
