CBC’s reality series, “The Assembly,” is set to air its second season, featuring six fresh celebrity interviews and an expanded cast of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults who will be asking the questions. Among the notable guests in the lineup are actors Hudson Williams (“Heated Rivalry”), Zach Galifianakis (“The Hangover”), and Jay Baruchel (“This is the End”).
The upcoming season, consisting of six episodes, will showcase figures such as actor and Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull, singer-songwriter Lights, and three-time Olympic hockey gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin. Each celebrity will undergo an unscripted interview, delving into unconventional and personal topics beyond typical promotional discussions.
The show’s appeal lies in its candid nature, allowing for genuine interactions, humor, and significant moments. The format of “The Assembly” is inspired by the French program “Les Rencontres du Papotin,” which debuted in 2022 featuring guests like “Killing Eve” star Camille Cottin and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The first season of “The Assembly” garnered accolades, including a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, and a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival. The show was also a finalist for a Banff Rockie Award. Executive producers Jennifer Dettman and Stephen Sawchuk express excitement about the new season’s continuation of authentic and engaging conversations, resonating with viewers’ desire for human connections.
Produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment, the second season of “The Assembly” premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem. Exclusive “producer’s cuts” will be accessible on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
