“Teen Convicted in Fatal New Year’s Eve Stabbing”

Date:

A young man has been convicted of the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in the throat during a crowded New Year’s Eve gathering. Areece Lloyd-Hall, 18, carried out the attack on Harry Pitman at London’s Primrose Hill as spectators gathered to watch fireworks over the River Thames on December 31, 2023.

Harry Pitman, described as “lively and boisterous,” was engaged in playful fighting before the altercation with Areece Lloyd-Hall on the same day in 2023. The incident unfolded in front of a large audience at the popular park enjoying the New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

Lloyd-Hall, now 18, aggressively approached Harry and stabbed him with a pointed dagger just meters away from police officers present at the scene. Shocking mobile phone footage presented in court captured a knife sheath flying through the air during the intense encounter.

Harry and Lloyd-Hall were strangers who had separately attended the fireworks event with their respective friends. The tragic event seemed to have been triggered by a scuffle between Harry and one of Lloyd-Hall’s acquaintances earlier that night.

After losing his balance during playfighting, Harry accidentally bumped into another person, leading to a confrontation that culminated in Lloyd-Hall wielding a knife. Despite claiming he only intended to use the sheath to deter Harry, Lloyd-Hall was found guilty of murder following a retrial at the Old Bailey.

During the trial, it was revealed that Lloyd-Hall may have been influenced by cannabis-induced paranoia and PTSD from previous violent incidents. The jury, after deliberating for almost eight hours, reached a majority decision of 11 to one in favor of a murder conviction.

The victim’s family reacted with astonishment as Lloyd-Hall was pronounced guilty. The sentencing of the teenager from Westminster is scheduled to take place at the Old Bailey on November 10.
