A reported “suicide blast” outside Islamabad’s district court has resulted in the tragic deaths of twelve individuals. Emergency crews, bomb disposal units, and forensic teams swiftly responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Around 20 people have been injured, with some receiving treatment at PIMS Hospital in the capital. Initial reports suggest that the blast originated from a nearby vehicle, leading to a fiery explosion near the court building.
Authorities are actively investigating the nature of the blast, and further details will be provided following a forensic analysis. Senior officials have confirmed the death toll and the number of injured individuals. Efforts are underway to identify the victims impacted by the explosion, according to local reports.
The blast has prompted heightened security measures in Islamabad, particularly around government facilities, to prevent any potential follow-up attacks. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the suicide bomber attempted to enter the court premises but detonated the explosives near a police vehicle after failing to gain entry.
Witnesses captured footage showing a crowd gathered on a nearby building’s balcony as thick smoke billowed from the vehicle below. Alarming sounds filled the air as onlookers recorded the chaotic scene on their mobile devices.
A lawyer present at the complex described the situation as chaotic, recounting the moment of the blast and the ensuing mayhem. The lawyer mentioned seeing casualties and vehicles engulfed in flames amid the turmoil.
The explosion occurred shortly after Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted an overnight attack in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghanistan border. The thwarted attack involved armed assailants targeting a cadet college, with a suicide car bomber and five other militants involved. Two attackers were swiftly neutralized by security forces, while three others were contained within the compound before being apprehended.
