Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, announced on Friday a global recall of more than 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a seat belt issue. The recall affects Ram 1500 vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2026, which may have a second-row center or driver side seat belt buckle anchor improperly attached to the vehicle body structure. This defect could compromise the second-row seat belt system’s effectiveness, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Stellantis has reported one injury possibly linked to the recall but no fatalities.
The recall encompasses 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 outside of North America. Affected vehicle owners will be contacted by the automaker to arrange for an inspection at dealerships. During the inspection, dealers will assess the second-row center and driver seat belt buckle anchors and, if necessary, secure them properly to the vehicle’s body structure.
