Weather forecasts indicate that up to 27 cities in the United Kingdom may experience snowfall in the coming month. The GFS weather model predicts that snowfall will start in the Midlands, north-west England, and northern Scotland at approximately 6 am on April 26. Birmingham is among the cities that could witness snow during the initial cold spell.
By 9 am, the maps show snow spreading widely across the UK, affecting areas just north of London, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the far north of Scotland. Yorkshire is also likely to see snow around this time.
Midday maps for April 26 show snowfall across northern England, the Midlands, a significant portion of Wales, and most of Scotland. Liverpool and Manchester are expected to be impacted during this period.
On April 27 at around 9 am, the maps indicate heavy snow in the far north of Scotland and northern England, with most of Wales covered in snow. Overall, 27 cities are projected to experience snow during this period.
Fortunately, snow accumulations are expected to be minimal, with most areas receiving less than 1cm. The Scottish hills may see significant snowfall, with up to six inches anticipated.
While temperatures are forecasted to be relatively warm later in the month, the Met Office warns of unsettled conditions ahead. The Met Office’s forecast from April 19 to 28 mentions the likelihood of showers in the far northeast at the beginning of the period, with dry and sunny weather expected for most areas. Towards the following week, dry weather with sunny spells is anticipated, with a possibility of unsettled weather returning by the weekend.
