The Prince and Princess of Wales have emerged victorious in a legal dispute against a French magazine for publishing intrusive articles and paparazzi photos. The images, featured in Paris Match, depicted William and Kate along with their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – during a vacation in the Alps in April.
Following the lawsuit, the magazine has been directed to acknowledge the privacy violation in its publication and cover the legal expenses of William and Kate in France. While compensation was sought initially, the royal couple opted for a “judicial notice” to be issued by the court.
A French court has mandated the magazine to issue a notice recognizing the privacy breach, imposing a penalty of €10,000 per publication until compliance is met.
A spokesperson from Kensington Palace released a statement confirming the legal victory of William and Kate. The couple emphasized their commitment to safeguarding their private family time and enforcing boundaries against unwarranted intrusion.
The court ruling upholds the entitlement of Their Royal Highnesses and their children to privacy and family time, irrespective of their public roles as members of the Royal Family. The Prince and Princess of Wales remain steadfast in protecting their family’s private life and shielding their children from excessive scrutiny and interference.
Paris Match had shared the long-lens photos of the Wales family in April, prompting prompt action from Kensington Palace. The court’s decision declared the article and images as an infringement on the family’s privacy, compelling Paris Match to publish a judicial notice and cover Kate and William’s legal fees. The couple was represented in France by Alain Toucas-Massillon, appointed through their UK legal representatives, Mishcon de Reya.
In a previous incident in 2012, the couple had taken legal action against the French magazine Closer for publishing images of their private holiday moments at Chateau d’Autet, near Aix-en-Provence.
