A couple engaged in sexual activity while driving at a speed of 90mph nearly caused a major accident on a German autobahn. The pair, aged 37 and 33, were seen swerving across the A1 motorway on Monday. A witness reported the incident to the authorities after observing the male driver and female passenger involved in the act. The couple was apprehended at a gas station near Münster, and the man faces charges for endangering road traffic.
Reports from local media indicated that the vehicle, traveling towards Dortmund, made a sudden right turn, forcing a truck onto the roadside at one point. Although Germany’s Autobahn is renowned for its unrestricted speed limits on many sections, approximately 30% of the roads have speed restrictions. Additionally, 9% of the roads utilize traffic control systems to ensure efficient traffic flow, with some areas imposing strict limits based on traffic volume and safety considerations.
In a separate incident in July, a driver was caught speeding at an astonishing 200mph on the Autobahn, exceeding the limit by more than 124mph. The individual, whose identity remained undisclosed, was apprehended during a routine check on the A2 highway near Burg, located west of Berlin. Authorities in Magdeburg imposed a €900 (£784) fine, a three-month driving suspension, and deducted two points from the driver’s license as a penalty.
