A man in Pennsylvania, Michael Mikula, 68, faced charges after authorities found the corpse of his wife, Sharlene Mikula, in their home in South Londonderry Township. Despite her death occurring a month prior, Mikula allegedly continued to live with her body, stating to police that she had been deceased for a long time. The deceased woman, aged 66, was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition during a wellness check conducted by officers.
Prosecutors accused Mikula of attempting to conceal the body, which remained undiscovered for an extended period. Upon police arrival at the residence on April 14, the District Attorney reported that Mrs. Mikula was found deceased in their bedroom, emitting decomposition odors detectable from outside the house. Mikula initially denied his wife’s presence when communicating through a Ring doorbell but later admitted to her passing, claiming he had not committed any wrongdoing.
Authorities stated that Mikula was aware of his wife’s death and had taken steps to hide it. The exact cause of Mrs. Mikula’s death remains under investigation due to the challenges posed by the advanced decomposition of the body. Mikula was charged with neglect resulting in death for failing to seek medical assistance when his wife passed away, leading to his arrest on a $100,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 23 as the investigation into the circumstances of Mrs. Mikula’s death continues.
