Police in Norwich, Norfolk, have initiated an inquiry into a mysterious death following the discovery of a deceased man on a boat in the city center. The man, identified as being in his 60s, was found lifeless on the Lady Julian Bridge, prompting emergency services to respond swiftly on Sunday afternoon. A collaborative effort involving the coastguard, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and ambulances was deployed to the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the location. The police disclosed that they received reports of the man’s body on the boat and that the incident occurred around 1:38 pm. While the man’s next of kin has been notified, the death is currently classified as unexplained but not suspicious. A detailed report is being prepared for the coroner’s office.
The deceased individual, locally identified as Karl Kesper by the Norwich Evening News, was found unresponsive on his boat, named the Ringpull, on Sunday afternoon. Known to have resided on his boat for several years, Kesper was described by the boating community as a solitary but content individual. He had been dealing with health issues for some time.
A member of the local community mentioned that although Kesper was somewhat reclusive, he was considered a part of their group and appeared content. Friends who visited him on Sunday made the distressing discovery of his unresponsive state. Despite the ongoing investigation into the unexplained nature of the death, authorities have confirmed that foul play is not suspected, with neighbors indicating that Kesper had a medical emergency on the day of the incident.
