Epping sex offender Hadush Kebatu was seen in London carrying an avocado-themed bag. Kebatu, who recently served a 12-month sentence for assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman in Essex, was mistakenly released from HMP Chelmsford and was supposed to be deported.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Kebatu was last spotted in the Dalston area of Hackney, East London, on Friday evening. Initially seen with his belongings in a clear plastic bag from prison, he has now been sighted with a unique white bag adorned with avocado pictures.
Police are conducting thorough investigations as the search for Kebatu continues. Residents are urged to report any sightings, and additional officers have been deployed to aid in the search. If Kebatu is seen, the public is advised to contact emergency services immediately.
Eyewitnesses reported Kebatu’s confused state as he returned multiple times to the prison gates before being directed to a railway station by staff. He traveled from Chelmsford to Stratford, London, and then made several journeys across the city with access to funds.
A delivery driver recalled Kebatu’s uncertainty and distress, mentioning that despite knowing about his deportation, Kebatu appeared lost and unsure of his next steps. The driver emphasized that Kebatu seemed to be attempting to comply with the situation despite the confusion.
