Date:

Residents in Margate have been forced to evacuate their homes following the discovery of suspicious items in a flat, leading to a police cordon and the deployment of a bomb squad.

Kent Police responded to concerns at an address on Rosedale Road, prompting the evacuation of residents on four roads including Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road, and Malham Drive. An individual has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Authorities confirmed the arrest and containment of the suspect this evening after being alerted at 4 pm regarding the suspicious items found in the flat. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from the Ministry of Defence is on-site conducting inspections.

The evacuation has affected residents on Rosedale Road, Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road, and Malham Drive, with Thanet District Council overseeing residents’ welfare. The Hartsdown Leisure Centre is assisting in this process.

Kent Police stated that the evacuation was a precautionary measure taken after concerns were raised about the items found in the property on Rosedale Road. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews, are present at the scene for further investigation.
