A man named Jihad Al-Shamie, who was shot dead by police outside the Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, made a 999 call claiming allegiance to the Islamic State group during the terror attack, according to Counter Terrorism Policing North West. Al-Shamie, aged 35, took responsibility for the incident that occurred at the synagogue on the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, where two congregation members lost their lives. Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, were killed in the attack, with Daulby accidentally shot by police while trying to prevent Al-Shamie from entering the synagogue.
Following the attack, police arrested several suspects, including two men aged 30 and 32, and two women aged 46 and 61, who were granted an extension of five days for custody. An 18-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were released without further action. The identities of those arrested and their connections to Al-Shamie have not been disclosed by the authorities.
Moreover, a woman who had a past relationship with Al-Shamie revealed his abusive and controlling behavior towards her, citing mental and sexual abuse. She disclosed that Al-Shamie had concealed his existing marriage and child in Manchester from her, expressing his desire for her to be his second wife. The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared her experience of Al-Shamie’s manipulative behavior before and during their relationship.
