“M25 Lorry Crash Causes Hours-Long Delays”

Date:

A lorry overturning on the M25 in Surrey caused significant traffic delays as emergency services responded to the incident. The motorway was partially closed in the anti-clockwise direction between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead). Two male drivers received medical attention at the scene. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported congestion stretching up to eight miles, with queues extending to J11 (Chertsey).

National Highways informed drivers to anticipate delays in the same direction between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead) following the collision. Normal traffic flow was projected to resume between 11:15 pm and 11:30 pm, but motorists were cautioned to expect 30-minute delays beyond the usual travel time.

Although lanes were reopened on the M25, drivers were warned of potential hour-long delays as traffic cleared. National Highways indicated that normal traffic conditions were not anticipated until between 11:15 pm and 11:30 pm. After a seven-hour closure due to a major lorry crash, the affected stretch of the M25 was finally reopened, allowing traffic to flow anti-clockwise between J10 (Wisley) and J9 (Leatherhead).

Despite the reopening, drivers were still forecasted to face 60-minute delays above regular travel times due to congestion spanning about six miles on the motorway. Continued traffic congestion resulted from the lorry crash on the M25. A new image of the overturned lorry was shared, and Surrey Police advised drivers to avoid the crash site.

According to a Surrey Police spokesperson, a collision involving a car and a lorry occurred on the M25 anti-clockwise between Junctions 10 (Cobham) and 9 (Leatherhead) around 10:15 am. Both male drivers sustained injuries and were treated on-site. All lanes remained closed for several hours for recovery operations. National Highways and South East Coast Ambulance Service provided updates on the situation and ongoing recovery efforts.

National Highways estimated that traffic conditions would normalize between 5:30 pm and 5:45 pm after a serious collision led to a lorry overturning on the motorway. Inrix and Google Maps highlighted the extensive traffic disruptions caused by the incident, prompting National Highways to advise motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative routes.

To assist motorists, National Highways outlined a diversion route following the closure between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead) and urged drivers to check their website and regional twitter feed for real-time updates. Surrey Police and emergency services continued to manage the situation on the M25, emphasizing the importance of avoiding the affected area and allowing extra travel time if necessary.
