Liverpool Teenager Found Dead in Wrexham Lake

Date:

A Liverpool teenager identified as Ashamekh Bortata, a 17-year-old student from Libya, was tragically discovered deceased in a lake near Wrexham. The incident occurred on April 7 when emergency services responded to a distress call reporting the teenager drowning next to Chirk Castle. An inquest into the death of Ashamekh was initiated in Ruthin, North Wales.

According to Coroner John Gittins, a friend of the teenager alerted emergency services that Ashamekh was in distress, prompting a swift response. Upon arrival, authorities encountered a group of young individuals from the Liverpool area who had ventured through the castle grounds. It was reported that they reached a wooded area and the lake, where Ashamekh entered the water.

The North Wales Fire Service was also present at the scene and conducted a search operation. The following day, police divers successfully located the teenager’s body. A preliminary examination by a pathologist determined drowning as the probable cause of death, leading Mr. Gittins to confirm the necessity for a formal inquest.

The inquest proceedings were temporarily suspended to allow for further investigation into the tragic incident.
