Lidl has introduced a significant change to its loyalty program, allowing customers to earn points while making purchases in-store.
Users of Lidl Plus will receive one point for every pound spent, which can later be exchanged for coupons for free items or discounts on purchases.
For instance, checking the Lidl Plus app today reveals that 100 points can be redeemed for a free cucumber, plain tortilla wraps, or houmous. With 200 points, customers can get a free halloumi or Greek yoghurt, while 300 points will give a £3 discount on the next shopping trip, and 500 points will result in a £5 discount.
The new points system, replacing the previous rewards based on monthly spending thresholds, offers more flexibility to customers. While the old scheme provided free treats and discounts for reaching specific spending levels, Lidl Plus now focuses on points accumulation and personalized discount coupons for select products.
To redeem points, users can visit the Rewards Marketplace section within the Lidl Plus app to select their desired reward. The points are valid for two years, and customers may need to spend more than before to achieve certain rewards.
Lidl’s Chief Customer Officer, Louise Weise, mentioned that the updated system offers more control and possibilities for customers to choose how they use their rewards. The company is also granting all app users 100 free points to kick off the new loyalty program, along with double points for fruit purchases until May 22.
Overall, the revamped loyalty scheme aims to cater to the diverse preferences of Lidl customers, providing them with more choices and benefits.
