Keir Starmer condemns Iranian assault on Kuwait oil refinery

Date:

Keir Starmer has criticized the irresponsible Iranian assault that caused a fire at an oil refinery in Kuwait.

The Gulf nations are experiencing attacks from Tehran while tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran are on the rise.

During a discussion with Kuwait’s Crown Prince, the Prime Minister talked about deploying the UK’s air defense system to safeguard Kuwaiti and British personnel.

According to a statement from Downing Street, the Prime Minister expressed his condemnation of the recent drone attack on a Kuwaiti oil refinery and reiterated the UK’s solidarity with Kuwait and its Gulf allies.

The conversation also touched on efforts to address disruptions in global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, with a plan being discussed to reopen the strait and a commitment to ongoing collaboration on the matter.

The Defence Secretary, John Healey, announced the arrival of a Rapid Sentry air defense missile system in Kuwait to enhance the country’s defense capabilities against potential Iranian strikes. The attack reportedly caused fires in operational units but resulted in no injuries.

Yvette Cooper recently criticized Iran for its actions in the Strait of Hormuz, accusing the regime of trying to manipulate the global economy. The UK, along with its allies, is considering sanctions against Iran if the vital shipping route remains closed.
