John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a recent statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm to collaborate with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community in shaping the organization’s future direction.
Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as revealed in a press release issued on Thursday. Notably, this year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021 and lauded TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in contributing to the film festival’s evolution.
Furthermore, TIFF announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Concurrently, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF conveyed its gratitude to Daniere for her dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
