Police have found human remains while searching for a woman who disappeared nearly two decades ago. Malgorzata Wnuczek, 27 years old at the time, went missing after taking a bus in Leicester on May 31, 2006. Her family last heard from her via text two days before her disappearance. Specialist officers uncovered human remains during their investigation into her case at a site off Leicester’s Great Central Way, as confirmed by Leicestershire Police.
The authorities stated that it is currently unknown if the remains belong to Ms. Wnuczek and further forensic tests will be conducted to determine the identity. Wnuczek, originally from Poland, was last seen boarding a bus from her workplace at Peter Jackson Logistics. Following new information from colleagues in Poland, fresh searches began on September 30. Detective Superintendent Jenni Greenway, the lead investigator, mentioned ongoing search efforts in the area in the upcoming weeks.
Detective Greenway expressed hope that the discovered human remains could provide insight into Wnuczek’s disappearance. She urged anyone with information, especially from the Polish community, to come forward, emphasizing the family’s long-standing uncertainty about Wnuczek’s fate. Despite previous appeals for information, including a search of the River Soar in 2023, no significant leads have been uncovered.
