Lewis Hamilton faced a challenging conclusion at the Singapore Grand Prix as he received a post-race penalty on top of a seventh-place finish. Hamilton encountered brake failure in the final laps, barely making it across the finish line.
During the race, Hamilton, on soft tires, showed promise but had to deal with brake issues. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, allowed Hamilton to pass as he attempted to chase down Kimi Antonelli. However, as Hamilton overtook another car, visible brake dust and sparks indicated potential brake disc wear.
Despite his struggles, Hamilton managed to retain seventh place until a post-race investigation penalized him. The penalty, a five-second time addition, was due to Hamilton repeatedly leaving the track without valid reasons. Consequently, Hamilton dropped to eighth place in the final standings, behind Fernando Alonso.
The stewards clarified that Hamilton’s attempts to manage the brake problem did not justify his track excursions, leading to the penalty. The penalty decision was uncontested by Hamilton’s team.
Alonso, who was initially behind Hamilton, expressed frustration over the outcome, questioning the safety of Hamilton driving with brake issues and the perceived leniency towards Hamilton during the race.
