Video footage captures a drug dealer chuckling on a late-night bus shortly after fatally stabbing a university student and proudly admitting to the act. Dino Donaldson, 21, was recorded on camera grinning and making light-hearted remarks following the repeated stabbing of Anojan Gnaneswaran, 21, at Strawberry Hill train station in Twickenham, southwest London. Donaldson was also heard on doorbell camera audio boasting about the stabbing, saying, “I stabbed him in the back, I stabbed him fully. I saw it and felt it go into him.”
The incident occurred on January 8, 2024, when Donaldson attacked his victim with a knife, inflicting wounds to the chest, abdomen, and thigh after pursuing him onto train tracks. The altercation stemmed from a dispute between two groups of men at the station over a drug transaction involving £50 for 10 ecstasy tablets.
Anojan, a talented third-year accounting and finance student who had competed in karate championships at the global and European levels, tragically lost his life in the incident. Shortly after the fatal encounter, Donaldson was observed on CCTV footage aboard an N87 night bus, where he appeared jovial and carefree.
Subsequently, Donaldson was apprehended three days later at his residence in west London, hiding in a closet. Police discovered 74 wraps of crack and heroin in his room, estimated to be worth over £1,000. Following a unanimous decision at the Old Bailey court, Judge Angela Rafferty KC ordered the defendant to be held in custody pending sentencing.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell of the British Transport Police condemned Donaldson’s actions, stating, “A trivial disagreement over a drug deal culminated in the senseless loss of a young man’s life at the hands of a heartless criminal. Donaldson exhibited cowardice by arming himself with a knife that night.
“His lack of remorse is evident in his refusal to accept responsibility for his heinous acts – fortunately, the jury saw through his deception. While no verdict can erase the pain of losing Anojan, we hope that today’s decision will bring some solace to his family.
“Thanks to our thorough investigation, justice has been served for the perpetrator of this tragic loss.”
Anojan’s family expressed their grief over the loss of their beloved son and brother, highlighting his academic achievements and success in sports, particularly karate competitions at a global level.
