In the aftermath of devastating wildfires last summer, the Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove is set to witness a transformation with the contribution of over 450 trees from a generous couple from Codroy Valley. Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who are retiring their nursery business, embarked on a long journey to Conception Bay North to distribute thousands of trees to the community.
Moved by the plight of those who lost everything in the fires, Warren expressed their desire to assist in any way possible. Despite facing a significant delay due to a road accident, the couple persevered and eventually reached their destination, albeit late, opting to spend the night in their truck.
The community’s response was overwhelming as residents eagerly gathered to collect the trees, with Bragg describing the scene as “heartwarming.” Warren shared touching encounters with locals, recounting stories of resilience and rebuilding efforts, such as a woman planning to restore her decimated garden.
The couple’s act of kindness, estimated at nearly $9,000, did not go unnoticed by Mayor Curtis Delaney, who expressed gratitude for their selfless donation. Delaney emphasized that the gesture transcended the physical trees, symbolizing solidarity and support for the town’s recovery.
Looking ahead, Bragg revealed plans to send thousands of seeds to enable further tree planting next summer, emphasizing their commitment to restoring the greenery of the area. Their altruistic efforts underscore a community coming together in the face of adversity, embodying a spirit of renewal and hope for the future.
