Firefighters responding to a fire in a flat within a tall building in Huyton were targeted with fireworks, as reported by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS).
Upon receiving the alert about the fire on Primrose Drive at 6.57pm, the crews swiftly reached the location at 7.04pm, deploying five fire engines and an aerial appliance to combat the blaze.
MFRS stated that the firefighters efficiently accessed the third-floor flat and successfully extinguished the fire using a main jet and a hose reel jet.
During the operation, the service disclosed that the fire crews came under attack from fireworks. A teenager present at the scene sustained injuries from a firework and is currently under the care of the North West Ambulance Service.
MFRS emphasized that while none of the firefighters were harmed during the incident, they condemned the assault and urged the public to show respect towards emergency service personnel who work tirelessly to safeguard communities.
Highlighting the security measures in place, MFRS mentioned that all fire engines are equipped with CCTV cameras, and the footage captured during the incident will be shared with Merseyside Police to aid in their investigation.
