“Fatal Incident Halts Manchester-Stalybridge Train Services”

Date:

A significant emergency response was seen at Ashton-under-Lyne station this evening, leading to the suspension of train services between Manchester and Stalybridge. Police, paramedics, and fire crews all attended the scene following reports of a casualty on the tracks, resulting in a tragic loss of life.

British Transport Police confirmed the fatality after being alerted to the incident at around 5 pm. Despite efforts from officers and paramedics, the individual was pronounced dead at the location. Authorities have stated that the death is not considered suspicious, with plans to compile a report for the coroner.

Footage captured by Manchester Evening News displayed a cordoned-off area on Turner Lane under the railway bridge, where emergency services continued to operate. National Rail provided updates on service disruptions, affecting various routes including those between Southport, Wigan North Western, Stalybridge, Liverpool Lime Street, Hull, Newcastle, Manchester Airport, Redcar Central, Saltburn, and Scarborough.

The disruption caused by the ongoing incident is anticipated to last until at least 8 pm, as emergency services work to manage the situation. Travelers have been advised that train services may face cancellations, delays of up to half an hour, or route revisions due to the closure of all lines between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge.
