“Exclusive: Billy Ray Cyrus Clarifies Miley’s Name Change”

Date:

When Miley, the popular singer, decided to remove “Cyrus” from her name on social media earlier this week, it sparked speculation among fans and followers.

Some wondered if this was a response to personal issues with her famous father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, or a way to honor her godmother, Dolly Parton, who recently passed away. Others questioned if it was related to her upcoming album release.

Today, Billy Ray Cyrus took to social media to clarify the situation. In an Instagram post, he revealed that he has always referred to his daughter as Miley, sharing a nostalgic picture of them together when she was young. Miley, originally named Destiny Hope Cyrus, earned her nickname “Smiley” from her father due to her joyful demeanor, which eventually evolved into Miley.

Billy Ray Cyrus also introduced Miley to Dolly Parton, whom he befriended during his time as her tour’s opening act. Parton became Miley’s godmother, and both Cyruses have expressed their deep sorrow over her recent passing.

On the day Dolly Parton died, Billy Ray Cyrus turned 65 and emphasized the importance of family, stating that supporting Miley’s decision to perform under a single name is more significant than ever. He likened this rebranding to other iconic artists like Dolly and Cher, highlighting the natural evolution of a superstar’s image.

It appears that Miley’s name change is more of a rebranding strategy rather than an official alteration. Her upcoming album, “Bass Persuades,” is set for release on Sept. 18, and she has announced two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in October. Expressing her excitement, she shared on Instagram that performing in L.A. holds personal significance for her as she considers it her home.
