However, despite the success of the film, Page revealed that he has not been approached for any new roles post the movie’s release. During an interview on the podcast “On Film… With Kevin McCarthy,” Page mentioned that he hadn’t been flooded with casting offers following the film.
Page’s portrayal of the character Sinon in “The Odyssey” was particularly praised for his compelling performance as the Greek soldier who meets an early demise in Odysseus’s scheme and returns to deliver a poignant monologue from the afterlife. Reflecting on the aftermath of the film, Page humorously addressed the criticism he faced for being Canadian, subtly alluding to the transphobic backlash that emerged when rumors incorrectly suggested he was cast as Achilles.
Notably, conservative figures like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk incited controversy on social media over the idea of a transgender actor portraying a character in the film, which was debunked when Page’s actual role was revealed. Page, a seasoned actor known for his roles in “Juno,” “Inception,” and “Hard Candy,” publicly came out as transgender in 2020 and has been an outspoken advocate against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation in both the U.S. and Canada.
In a recent podcast interview, Page expressed his eagerness to continue acting, emphasizing that his transition has brought a newfound confidence to his performances. He mentioned feeling liberated from the discomfort he previously experienced, stating that he believes he is now capable of delivering some of his best work. Reflecting on his career, Page discussed the personal growth he experienced during his collaboration with Nolan on “Inception” and the emotional closure he felt upon wrapping up “The Odyssey.”
Page’s experience is not unique, as Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in the same film, revealed on a podcast that she has also faced a dry spell in terms of new acting opportunities post “The Odyssey.” Morton, acknowledging the industry’s evolving dynamics, expressed that despite her confidence in her acting abilities, the competitive landscape of the industry has shifted significantly.
