An airport in Europe has ceased operations following unexplained drone activity in close proximity – marking the third such occurrence within a span of two days.
A spokesperson representing Vilnius Airport in Lithuania disclosed that the airspace restriction was enforced after a drone was spotted within the airport’s vicinity.
Yesterday, two major international airports in Belgium also had to halt operations due to drone interference. Brussels Airport, one of the affected airports, stated: “Due to drone sightings around the airport, there are currently no incoming or outgoing flights.”
A subsequent update mentioned: “The disruption has resulted in delays, some flight cancellations, and could still affect flight schedules on Wednesday morning.”
Authorities temporarily paused air traffic at Charleroi, Brussels’ second-largest airport, as a precautionary measure. Initially, flights were redirected to Liege airport, which was subsequently shut down due to suspected drone sightings.
