Reports from The Times, Telegraph, BBC, and Sky News indicated that Arday, aged 41, was found unresponsive at a residence in Battersea, south London, on Friday afternoon. In a statement released by his publisher, Simon & Schuster U.K., Arday’s family expressed deep shock over the loss of their beloved relative, describing him as a kind-hearted individual who always sought the best in others. The family highlighted that Arday had endured a prolonged period of unwarranted scrutiny and abuse from detractors.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the discovery of an unresponsive 41-year-old man in Battersea, refraining from disclosing his identity as per protocol. The police mentioned that while the circumstances surrounding the man’s death were unexpected, there were no indications of foul play. Deborah Prentice, the vice-chancellor of Cambridge, conveyed her profound sadness at the news and extended condolences to Arday’s family and friends during this challenging time.
U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham described Arday’s passing as a multifaceted tragedy, emphasizing the need for reflection rather than hasty judgments. London Mayor Sadiq Khan lamented the public shaming Arday had endured, which he believed was unjust and disproportionate to the circumstances. Former Conservative home secretary James Cleverly criticized academic institutions for placing Arday in positions beyond his qualifications for their own gain.
