A young boy from Calgary who was rescued from a B.C. river after almost drowning is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital, with his family revealing that his lungs have sustained severe damage. Nine-year-old Paul-Angelo Warren was swimming and diving in the Shuswap River close to Enderby on August 3 when he failed to resurface while underwater. Maria Warren, his mother, recounted how bystanders at the beach quickly came to his aid, pulling him out of the water moments after he went missing. According to a statement from the RCMP, the boy was trapped against fallen debris by the river’s swift flow, but was eventually rescued and administered CPR on the shore. Authorities suspect he might have been submerged for up to 10 minutes.
Paul-Angelo is currently receiving care at Vancouver Children’s Hospital, with his family remaining by his side. Maria emphasized her constant presence next to her son, stating, “I always, always stay with him because I want to make sure that when he opens his eyes, he will see me right away and hear my voice.”
